The Taliban now has access to $85 billion worth of American military equipment and the biometric data of the Afghans who have assisted soldiers over the past 20 years, a Republican congressman has warned.
Jim Banks, a former US Navy reservist, said that the vast amount of hardware left behind includes 75,000 vehicles, 200 airplanes and helicopters and 600,000 small arms and light weapons.
“The Taliban now has more Black Hawk helicopters than 85 per cent of the countries in the world,” he said in a speech in Washington.
Other equipment seized by the Taliban includes night-vision goggles, body armour and medical supplies, he said.
Mr Banks says he is sure of the numbers because he worked as a foreign military sales officer, acquiring the equipment that America provided, then turning it over to Afghan forces.

75,000 vehicles
200 airplanes and Black Hawk helicopters
600,000 small arms and light weapons
Night-vision goggles
Body armour
Medical supplies
“Unfathomable to me and so many others, the Taliban now has biometric devices which have the fingerprints, eye scans and biographical information of all the Afghans who helped us and were on our side in the last 20 years," Mr Banks said.
"There is no plan by this administration to get those weapons back.
"There is no plan to account for any of this equipment or these weapons.
"If any of these weapons or this military equipment is used to harm, injure, or kill an American now or at any time in the future, the blood is on Joe Biden's hands," the Congressman said.
The speech was shared on social media by Conservative MP and former soldier Johnny Mercer.
This will stop you in your tracks. Unbelievable. We gave them the names of those we trained to fight them. And some we will leave behind to the violence we see at the airport.

“An appalling day, verging from rage to tears.”
Already, the Taliban say they have deployed an elite unit boasting high-tech equipment to guard sites in the Afghan capital.
The militants' propaganda channels released a slick film of a unit called the "Badri 313 Brigade", saying they would be on the streets of Kabul and guarding the presidential palace.
Slow motion footage showed them wearing modern helmets, sun glasses, body armour and carrying similar rifles to the Afghan forces.
On Thursday, it was claimed that US officials gave the Taliban a list of names of American citizens, green card holders and Afghan allies in order to expedite their access into the airport perimeter and speed up the evacuation process.
That decision, reported by Politico, has been lambasted by Defence department insiders, with one saying they had effectively handed over a "kill list."
“It’s just appalling and shocking and makes you feel unclean,” they added.
A spokesperson for US Central Command declined to comment.
Mr Banks was also furious at the events outside Kabul airport, saying: “the responsibility for this tragedy rests squarely on the shoulders of Joe Biden.
“His incompetence means American blood has been shed. This was avoidable and is unforgivable.”

Date: 2021-08-28 12:08 am (UTC)

Date: 2021-08-28 03:04 am (UTC)

Date: 2021-08-28 03:48 pm (UTC)
